Cruise Ship Job
Have you ever imagined what it would be like working on a cruise ship? Traveling to different ports and destinations, world-class food, meeting new people and the perks that come with being employed for a major cruise line make it seem like one of the most exciting jobs- compared to being stuck in an office.
If you love to travel, employment on a cruise ship might be a great option. Spending winters is warm climates and summers in Alaska doesn’t sound so bad? Or traveling to remote parts of Europe, South America, Australia or even the Caribbean for work seems like a dream job, especially if meals and accommodations are included.
There are a myriad of benefits to working on a cruise ship for a major cruise line. Aside from traveling to numerous destinations, cruise line employees often receive accommodations, meals, medical care and airline tickets to ports and back home for free. It’s a great way to travel, save money and earn money. Some lines even offer discount rates for friends and family.
However, if you have a family, working on a cruise ship might be more difficult than if you’re single or a student, due to the amount of travel involved. Single people and college students available for summer jobs, or people just looking for an out of the ordinary job are great candidates for this line of work. With so many departments, it literally takes a village to run these massive ships. No matter what your expertise, there are departments ranging from the Deck Department, Beauty Salon Department to the Hotel Operations Department.
Although it’s difficult to imagine, there are downsides to working on a major cruise liner. Cabin fever, compartmentalized, repetitive jobs and catering to the eccentricities of guests can be taxing when it comes to work, especially if you’re working over ten-hour days.
If you enjoy traveling and you’re not committed to family, you may consider a job on a cruise ship. It may just be your ticket to travel!
